Three projects over two years in Northeast : YUTHANA PRAIWAN
Smart Green Energy Co announced a combined investment of 12.1 billion baht for three soar farm projects over the next two years.
Chief executive Deeanek Boonsima said the projects will have a combined capacity of 79 megawatts.
Bangkok Bank agreed to finance the construction together with Bangkok Solar Power, which supplies solar cells and will be the project contractor.
Smart Green Energy has started developing the first project worth 4.6 billion baht in Chaiyaphum’s Bamnet Narong district for a 27-MW farm on 700 rai. Commercial operation is expected in December.
The second project will be in Roi Et province, with investment value of 2.5 billion baht for 12 MW of capacity. Commercial operation is scheduled to commence in 2013.
The third project worth 5 billion baht will be located in Khon Kaen. With a capacity of 40 MW, it is also set to start operation in 2013.
The Provincial Electricity from the projects with an adder tariff of 11 baht per kilowatt-hour on average.
The company was established last February to develop solar projects after it was granted a solar farm licensed from the Energy Ministry in 2006.
Mr Deeanek is the owner of the steel trader Smart Trader Co, which supplies the construction sector.
Given stiff competition in the sector, he decided to diversify into renewable energy.
Solar farms do not require raw materials and there is low competition, offering better prospects than steel trading, he said. He also wants to develop a wind turbine farm and biomass project in the future.
